Velorama Colorado re-examines bicycle racing to create a more Euro-style festival event that includes top-flight live music and a marketplace, creating a large-scale community event in the RiNo Art District in Denver this summer from Aug. 11-13 as the final stage of the Colorado Classic.
The Colorado Classic is a four-day, three-stage cycling event that features some of the world’s best cyclists racing through the streets of Colorado Springs and Breckenridge in a traditional bike race. But when the third stage hits the streets of Denver, it will become the centerpiece of the Velorama Colorado festival!
Three Days Of Music, Food and Fun
The festival will be a three-day, large-scale community event that will feature live music, a beer garden, a marketplace anchored by Denver Flea and a bike expo with the final leg of the Classic’s finish line on Walnut Street in Denver’s RiNo District right in the center of the event!
Local food, trucks, brick-and-mortar restaurants, breweries and cideries based in the district will provide food and adult beverages, and an expanded version of Denver Flea will host almost 200 independent vendors in addition to the 150 vendors expected at the bike expo.
Live music happens on Friday and Saturday nights during the festival. Wilco is the Friday headliner with the New Pornographers and La Santa Cecilia sharing the bill. Saturday features Death Cab For Cutie, Saint Motel and Tennis. Sunday night stars The Old 07’s, The Jayhawks and Rob Drabkin. All nights will also feature performances by local artists.
The Velorama festival takes a page from the European racing circuit, which often creates festivals around important races, but is unlike any other Colorado music festival. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper summed it up well at the press conference announcing the event: “Coloradans’ love of cycling is matched – maybe even exceeded – by their passion for great food, beer and music.”
The Velorama Colorado festival is slated to provide plenty of excitement with performances by some of the cycling world’s greatest athletes, food provided by some of Denver’s award-winning food trucks and restaurants and live music by national acts Wilco and Death Cab For Cute.
