Detroit Lions Place RB Ameer Abdullah on IR

Things don’t come easy for the Detroit Lions, and this year is no exception.  Detroit announced today that second year running back, Ameer Abdullah would be placed on IR with a foot injury.

Abdullah injured the foot in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. He hobbled off the field and did not return to the game. Initial X-Rays did not reveal any fractures, but a second opinion on Tuesday apparently changed that story line, prompting the IR designation.

While it is unclear if Abdullah will be back this season, NFL teams can now designated one player on IR to return at a later point in the season.  The injury leaves Detroit with Theo Riddick as the top back, followed by Dwayne Washington (rookie) and Zach Zenner.
