As the owners and players union draw near to an agreement on the new collective bargaining agreement for 2017, multiple sources are hinting at the possibility of expansion. When the NBA announced its new TV deal in 2014, they included “Expansion Escalators” which in layman’s terms means – if the NBA expands, the more the networks who buy TV rights from them have to pay. That means more money in the NBA’s pocket if that were to happen.
So all of this points to a very real possibility that the NBA expands at some point in the near future. What does that mean for cities like Seattle and Cincinnati/Louisville? The NBA might be headed to town.
