Just two years removed from his World Series clinching start against the Texas Rangers, Tim Lincecum is coming out of the bullpen as his San Francisco Giants face elimination in their 2012 NLDS matchup vs. the Cincinnati Reds. Lincecum has struggled this year, with a losing 10-15 record and an ERA over 5. If available, this game would have typically been a must-start for Lincecum, as his team is on the verge of getting swept by the NL Central champs.
Lincecum pitched two innings of relief in the Giants’ game two defeat. He gave up just one hit and struck out two during the sixth and seventh innings. Lincecum says he is excited for any chance he has to be on the field during the 2012 MLB Playoffs. Ryan Vogelsong, appearing in his first ever playoffs, will get the start in crucial game three. “I’m just looking forward to whenever I get on the field, whether that’s starting,” Lincecum said. “Nothing’s saying I’m going to come out of the bullpen today. Just waiting for that chance. When it comes up I’ll do my best. My reaction is I know what to prepare for now. I’ll go in with that mindset today and whatever they want me to do. That’s really all I can do. I don’t make up the lineup. As much as I’d like to start, I don’t have that say. He’s the one making the decisions. That’s what he’s there for and I’m all for that.”
