Kershaw Rocky but Dodgers Prevail

Los Angeles Dodgers  4 – 3  Washington Nationals

Clayton Kershaw wasn’t quite at his regular season best, but the Dodgers were able to hang on and take a 1-0 series lead. In what was supposed to be a pitching duel between aces Kershaw and Max Scherzer turned out to be a battle of bullpens.  Kershaw lasted just five, giving up three runs on eight hits. Scherzer lasted six, but gave up four runs on four hits.

Neither bullpen gave up a run, which was the only part of this game that lived up to billing. The Dodgers and Nationals came into the series with the first and second ranked bullpens in the majors.

Game two will resume on Sunday, following Saturday’s rain delay.
