Cubs Use Late Grand Slam to Take 1-0 Series Lead

Chicago Cubs  8 – 4  Los Angeles Dodgers

Everything that could have gone right for the Cubs did on Saturday, as they used an eighth inning grand slam to secure a 1-0 NLCS lead over the Dodgers.

LA made strong contact all night long, but hit it right at fielders. When they did find gaps, Dexter Fowler made incredible play after incredible play. Meanwhile for the Cubs, botched squeeze attempts turned into steals of home and bloops over the shortstops head were turned into doubles.

Chicago had a 3-1 lead heading into the eighth, when the Dodgers were able to single off Aroldis Chapman for two runs. The excitement didn’t last long, however, as Miguel Montero blasted a two-strike pitch over the right field wall for an insurmountable lead.

The series resumes on Sunday in Chicago.
