Chicago Cubs 5 – 2 San Francisco Giants
Jeff Samardzija lasted only two innings, as the Cubs tagged him for six hits and four runs, en-route to a 5-2 victory and a commanding 2-0 series lead.
Chicago opened the scoring with a Ben Zobrist single in the first; then added three more in the second, including a two-run single from pitcher Kyle Hendricks. Kris Bryant’s RBI single effectively ended Samardzija’s night as the Giants found themselves down 4-0 early.
The Giants answered back in the third with a pair of runs thanks to a Gregor Blanco double and a Brandon Belt sac fly, but that was the last time they would score.
